Professional golfers like to live near golf courses. Golf courses tend to be in upscale communities. Upscale communities attract other wealthy people. Wealthy people include a lot of athletes.
Thus, it shouldn’t come as much surprise that professional golfers sometimes count other professional athletes among their neighbors.
The legendary Jack Nicklaus will be the latest, as the Washington Business Journal reported this week that he’s moving into the same neighborhood as Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins. The second-year quarterback lives in Loudoun County’s Creighton Farms, outside of Washington D.C. and where The Club at Creighton Farms includes a Nicklaus signature golf course.

Neighbors who already play golf together are Keegan Bradley and Michael Jordan in Jupiter, Fla. Bradley said earlier this year that beating MJ on the course is “the easiest money I’ve ever made.” But the greatest basketball player to ever live is teaching Bradley some things on being more “cocky” on the golf course.
And not far away in Jupiter is Tiger Woods, who often hits the links with Back9Network’s Ahmad Rashad. Their kids go to the same school, so when their schedules have them in town at the same time, it’s common for the fathers to drop the children off at school, head to the golf course, make a few bets, then return to school to pick the kids up. They sometimes include Bradley and Jordan in on the action as well.
We doubt Rory McIlroy has ever teed it up with Serena and/or Venus Williams, but if the tennis stars are ever up for it, they’re just right down the road. McIlroy reportedly bought a spot in in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., late last year. Maybe it was so his girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki (No. 9 in the world), can keep an eye on her competition (Serena’s No. 1, Venus No. 38).
Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar are able to keep an eye on their competitors, because they both live in St. Simons Island, Ga. So too does St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, who Wednesday night threw his first postseason complete game and pushed the Cards one step closer to the World Series. The pitcher is especially close with Johnson, whom he followed at the 2011 Masters while sitting out the baseball season after elbow surgery.
And just this last weekend, Jason Day was followed around the golf course during the Presidents Cup by Columbus Blue Jacket defenseman James Wisniewski. The hockey player purchased a house in Muirfield in 2011 and soon became buddies with Day, who lives nearby. They play golf together at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, which just hosted the Presidents Cup, and after Day’s International team fell to the U.S. team, his spirits were lifted when Wisniewski invited him to skate with the Blue Jackets.
