Well, that didn’t take long. Just last month, Karsten Maas made his way into the record books when he created the world’s longest usable golf club, measuring in at 14 feet, 5 inches long. Unfortunately, his few weeks of glory were cut short by the man who holds the most world records: more than 500.
Ashrita Furman broke Maas’ record by making a club that’s 18 feet, 5 inches long — because a 14-foot club simply isn’t long enough.
The makeshift Callaway Big Bertha also weighs 7.5 pounds, meaning it’s probably the heaviest club in the world, too. Furman didn’t take a full swing with the club to set the record, but he did manage to hit it 27 yards, which is good enough for the title.
This may have started a back-and-forth battle for the ages between Furman and Maas. It shouldn’t be long before Maas comes back with a 20-foot club, and he’ll probably hit it 150-plus yards.
