Golfers who were vacationing in Thailand suffered a tragic fate this week as a golf cart accident on a ferry caused two couples to fall into the Nan River, killing two of them.
The two South Korean couples arrived in Thailand on Christmas Eve for a holiday vacation and were playing golf on a course in the Phitsanulok province. The river that runs through the course required a ferry ride to reach the other side of the water, and when the cart holding the two men, Sung Jun-yong, 68, and Ha Jae-oong, 76, was rear-ended by the cart driven by their wives, the impact caused all four to fall into the river.

The wives were rescued promptly by nearby fisherman, according to The Guardian, but the two men weren’t as fortunate.
“Their wives said both are able to swim but I think the cause of drowning was the strong undercurrent,” district police Lieutenant Colonel Suwat Suawatmontri said.
More than 50 rescue workers, military and police were involved in the search for the two golfers, but they were unsuccessful in saving them. One body washed up on Wednesday night about 1.2 miles from the accident while the second body was found on Thursday morning “near a temple,” Suwat said.
