Tiger Woods Set To Join Golfing Legends In Restaurant Business

Tiger Woods knows he’s closer to the end of his legendary golf career than he is the beginning. He still has every intention of chasing down the sport’s two most iconic records – 18 majors by Jack Nicklaus and 82 PGA Tour victories Sam Snead – but he realizes it’s none too soon to start setting himself up for life after professional golf.

To that end, Woods continues to work on growing his golf course design business, and he now plans to open up his first restaurant. Woods on Tuesday was revealed as the latest tenant for an entertainment complex in Jupiter, Fla., which is where Woods and dozens of other pro golfers reside. It will be a restaurant/sports bar called The Woods Jupiter: Sports and Dining Club.

Stores in the $150 million Harbourside Place will begin opening in October and continue through November. There is no indication exactly when Woods’ restaurant will begin serving, but a grand opening for the complex is planned for December.

Harbourside Place

Harbourside Place

“I’ve been watching Harbourside Place’s development since it broke ground more than two years ago, and know that it is the perfect location for my sports and dining club. I look forward to enjoying my restaurant as much as I hope the public will,” Woods said in a statement.

“I envision a place where people can meet friends, watch sports on TV and enjoy a great meal. I wanted to build it locally where I live and where it could help support the community.”

Woods will join some golfing legends in the restaurant business:

Arnold Palmer’s Restaurant
Arnold Palmer boasts an eponymous eatery in La Quinta, Calif. (near Palm Desert), featuring the Masters Room, the British Open Room, the U.S. Open Room, the Palmer Room, and the Wine Room, all complete with Palmer memorabilia.

Greg Norman’s Australian Grille
Possibly the finest “golfer restaurant” is Greg Norman’s Australian Grille in Myrtle Beach, S.C., another retired golfer’s mecca. The establishment sits right on the waterfront of the Intracoastal Waterway and features a nice mix of seafood, steaks, pastas, desserts and wines. You’ll see Norman’s name and signature shark logo on the sign as you walk in, but you won’t see his likeness splashed all over the walls.

Sam Snead’s Tavern
Slammin’ Sammy’s family has a nice little chain of restaurants – 11 locations in Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and New Brunswick, Canada. The chefs specialize in Angus beef, chicken and seafood, and each tavern is loaded with unique golf memorabilia that the Snead family handpicks and places itself.

Nona Blue Modern Tavern
One of the men who just helped Europe crush the U.S. in the Ryder Cup has a place in Orlando. Graeme McDowell’s Nona Blue Modern Tavern opened in March 2013 just outside the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, where G-Mac lives when he’s in the States. He didn’t want it to be a “golf bar,” but there are some images of the 2010 U.S. Open champ adorning the walls.

John Daly Pizza
And then there’s John Daly. While he doesn’t own a restaurant per se – unless you count Loudmouth Grill, which is really just an extension of the brand Daly has made so popular – he does own a program that produces food. John Daly Pizza provides the ingredients and equipment for establishments, such as golf clubs, to make their pizza. Naturally, “Grip It and Eat It” is the slogan.
