This Golfer Might Have The Ugliest Swing In The World

“Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing.” – The Legend Of Bagger Vance

This could not be more true in the case of James Van Meerbeeck. The 58-year-old Belgian has had an unconventional (and I use this term loosely) swing for as long as he can remember.

“I took a lesson about eight years ago, and I thought the pro was going to have a heart attack” he said in an interview with Golf Digest. “He gave me a few pointers on squaring the club face at impact and told me to continue to enjoy the game. I love it, every swing I take.”

Mr. Meerbeek is a member of Sedgefield Country Club, the same club that hosts the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship. In fact, he recently shot 80! Probably makes you feel good about your game, right?

The swing has components of everything from Jim Furyk to Charles Barkley and is essentially like watching a car crash in slow motion. No matter how hard you try, it’s impossible to look away.

“I’ve heard a lot of funny comments about my swing at the range, but when people play golf with me, they usually get very quiet,” Van Meerbeeck said. “It’s all about being able to repeat it on a consistent basis, right?”

This is the swing of 58-year-old Jack Van Meerbeeck. More on it at GolfDigest.com.

The thing is, he is right. Furyk recently made history by shooting the first ever 58 in competition with a swing that everybody has laughed at at least once in their lives.

While Meerbeck’s swing may not win any beauty pageants, the lesson here is that golf doesn’t care about what you look like, as long as you enjoy it.
