Here’s a look at four of the greatest in the game.
Magnolia Lane, Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga.
If there’s any drive a golfer has wanted to take, it’s down Magnolia Lane. It means a player either belongs to Augusta National Golf Club or is a contestant in the Masters. Tournament patrons can view the famous driveway, whose history was recently chronicled by famed golf writer David Owen. However, there are less magnolias than there once were, as a storm during the 2011 Masters uprooted one, leaving 60.
17-Mile Drive, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, Calif.
The weather on the Monterey peninsula rarely changes much, but that means it is almost always the right time for a ride down 17-Mile Drive. Running through Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, the roadway is, in fact, exactly 17 miles long. Pebble Beach offers an interactive map of the drive, which runs by the Lone Cypress, Spanish Bay and the Lodge at Pebble Beach.
Las Vegas Strip, Bali Hai Golf Club, Las Vegas, Nev.
There are few drives most scintillating in the world than the Las Vegas Strip. The casino lights that brighten the desert night’s sky are not often associated with golf, but at the end of the line is Bali Hai Golf Club. The par-4 eighth hole plays directly into the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort.
George Washington Parkway, East Potomac Golf Course, Washington, D.C.
Drive around almost any part of the U.S. capital, and you’ll find yourself inspired by democracy and American history. Hop on the GW Parkway, however, and you can make your way to the city-run East Potomac Golf Course. You’ll pass Roosevelt Island, Georgetown University, see the Tidal Basin, the Capitol dome and the Washington Monument — which you’ll hit shots toward during your round. The course may not be much, but those shots are worth the minimal green fee.
