Skratch Presents “72 in 72: Denver”

Golf is a game of history and tradition, but behind all of the rules and etiquette are players out on the course to get away from the stress and pressure of their everyday lives. Partnering with our friends at Skratch, SxS is proud to bring you “The Shank brought to you by Skratch,” a look at the lighter side of the game each week. As the folks at Skratch say, “It’s just golf. Try not to take it so seriously”

One of the best things golf has to offer is the camaraderie it grants its participants. That camaraderie has spurned it own cottage industry: buddies trips, a golf-centric getaway that friends can play way too far in advance and tend to enjoy way too much. With buddies trips in mind, Skratch unveiled its newest series “72 in 72 Driven by Avis.”

The 72 in 72 concept is a simple one: play 72 holes of golf in 72 hours at non-resort or private clubs, giving viewers a crash course in the possibilities that lie in the host city for a buddies trip.

The first installment of the series featured Shane Bacon of Fox Sports, Chad Coleman of Callaway Golf and DJ Piehowski of Skratch playing four courses in the Denver, Colorado. The threesome met up with some local celebrities to play four courses — Fossil Trace, Fox Hollow, Commonground and City Park — in the Greater Denver area.

Interspersed between some good golf and good company, the gang hit up some of the other attractions of the area, including the Red Rocks Ampitheatre and Voodoo Donuts. If you’re looking to plan your next buddies trip in the mountains of central Colarado, you could do worse than starting where the boys in 72 in 72  did.
