Rory Surprises Super Fan, Makes His Life

Rory McIlroy’s offseason has turned out to be more of a goodwill mission. Earlier this fall, he reached out to a young fan who caught a golf ball he tossed into the crowd, and over the weekend, he went on The Late Late Toy Show with Ryan Tubridy to surprise a superfan.

9-year-old Charley Smyth had acquited himself quite nicely in what was likely his television debut, playing the Rory McIlroy PGA Tour video game and running down the real-life McIlroy’s accomplishments. He even got a little cheeky when talking about the money Rory had won in the past year, thanks to his FedEx Cup win.

That all stopped when McIlroy emerged from backstage to surprise Smyth. Smyth’s awe-struck reaction was probably more welcomed by McIlroy, considering the last time he went face-to-face with a funny young fan resulted in one of the best videos of the year.
