The Fort Worth (Texas) Police Department is using a new-age way of attempting to catch a thief — going viral — by invoking a nostalgic television show — The Dukes of Hazzard — to drum up notoriety.
Searching for a thief who stole golf clubs out of an open garage door, the FWPD spliced together a video that showed the thief hopping out of his driver-side door, stealing the clubs and putting them into the car, once again, through the driver-side door all while having The Dukes of Hazzard theme song playing in the background.
The thief’s entrance and exit from the purple Ford Fusion was reminiscent of Bo and Luke Duke, so naturally, the FWPD tabbed the wanted man as “The Doof of Hazzard.”
‘Doof of Hazzard’
This ‘doof’ stole golf clubs – Dukes of Hazzard style – from a #FortWorth garage on Dec. 1.

In hopes of gaining some traction, the FWPD tagged Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke, John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, and Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke in the tweet.
Thanks to the ingenuity of the FWPD’s social team, the thief was identified only minutes after the video was posted.
#UPDATE – it only took 37 mins to identify this suspect. #ThankYou followers. https://t.co/ViuYOJYExk
