Nike has always found ways to incorporate a ton of creativity (and controversy) in their commercials over the years, specifically surrounding top athletes. In their new ‘Golf is a Sport’ ad focusing on Tiger’s new golf shoes, Nike tip-toes into the realm of the bizarre.
First of all, Tiger’s new shoes – the TW ’14 — are pretty sweet. There’s no denying that golf fans everywhere will be dying to get their hands (and feet) on these beauties this summer. The commercial, however, seems to send a mixed message.
Call me a purist, but if you have to put other ‘major’ sports into a commercial to show how golf is actually a sport, then we need to sit down and have a talk. While I will admit the final scene where Tiger is getting rushed by a thousand fans is pretty great, the boxing referee and catcher/umpire scenes are odd.
