If you’ve seen the movie “Zero Dark Thirty,” you have an idea of how intense the Navy SEAL operation to kill Osama bin Laden was. Same goes for the mission to rescue a ship captain who was captured by Somali pirates if you’ve seen the film “Captain Phillips.”
There is one man who was a part of both of those situations – and he thinks golf is more nerve-wracking. Yes, golf, the game many of us take to in an effort to escape stress.
Rob O’Neill is credited with being the member of the famed SEAL Team Six who deposited three bullets into the head of the most notorious terrorist in the world. It’s a role he didn’t necessarily want to publicize, but is now speaking out and admitting it was a big secret to keep.
The 38-year-old spoke with the New York Post last week, and described his transition back to normal life. As part of that process he visited a therapist, who suggested he take up golf.
“The last psychiatrist I spoke to recommended golfing to relieve stress — and that’s a bad idea. … Golf’s more stressful than combat,” O’Neill joked.
True, golf can be stressful. A way different kind of stress than warfare, but it’s definitely not the easiest game on the planet. Maybe O’Neill should stick to beer league softball.
You know what else is stressful? Being a Washington Redskins fan, which O’Neill is. Not only is the team under scrutiny for maintaining a name that many feel is racist, but the squad is awful at playing football.
O’Neill actually spoke with the team Saturday night as it prepared for a game against the 1-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here he is with Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon:
And O’Neill watched from the owner’s suite:
But instead of the Redskins moving to 4-6 on the year, O’Neill watched them lose their third game of the year at home. These days it’s easier to be a fan of the Arizona Cardinals (9-1).
