‘Grandma Gladys’ Smokes 300-Yard Drives

Golf is easy. Especially for a grandma.

That’s what participants in a junior golf clinic thought recently when women’s long-drive champion Troy Mullins showed up in disguise. Mullins appeared as a junior golfer’s “Grandma Gladys” during a clinic prior to last month’s Genesis Open.

Mullins limped to the tee, sold the act originally and then reeled off a few 300-yard drives that wowed the crowd. Look at the surprise campers and instructors had when granny puts her purse down to take a swing.

The 25-year-old Mullins, who is a self-taught golfer, launched a massive 374-yard drive to win the long-drive competition last year at the Mile High Showdown. She is also an Instagram star, with over 44K followers on the social media site. She can be followed at TrojanGoddess.

Mullins picked up golf late in life as a 21-year-old college student at Cornell. In college, she competed in track, running the 200-meter, 800-meter and 100-hurdles as well as high jump, long jump and the javelin. She turned to golf to continue athletic pursuits and has become one of the premier long drivers in the world, winning last year’s World Long Drive Competition.

Despite the late entry into golf, Mullins is a four handicap and has aspirations of being on the LPGA Tour. In addition to golf, Mullins has a degree from Cornell in China-Asia Pacific studies and international relations. She has also started a homeschooling and tutoring business to help support her professional golf career.

Whether Mullins ever makes the LPGA Tour or not, she made fans at the clinic for sure.

No one is ever going to forget a granny hitting a 300-yard drive.
