European Tour Pro Tries 500 Times to Hit an Ace

Hitting a hole-in-one is a bucket-list item for every golfer. The odds of an amateur hitting an ace when he or she steps up on the tee is 1-in-12,500, but if one is a professional, those odds plummet to 1-in-2,500.

The European Tour thought it would be fun to torture one of their players to the brink of insanity when the asked Edoardo Molinari if he was willing to spend 12 hours — if necessary — and hit 500 balls — again, only if necessary — to a 145-yard hole until he makes an ace. What ensued was a clinic in ball striking and proof that golf is the most maddening game ever created.

Molinari began the challenge by nearly jarring his first shot of the day and throughout the shoot, he hit numerous shots within inches of the cup. However, when ball No. 500 came out some 12 hours after they began filming, he was still yet to find the bottom of the cup.

The clip is beautiful in its brutality and gives hope to all those lifelong golfers yet to feel the euphoria that comes with an ace. Of course, it also gives the random guy at your course with 10 aces even more smug satisfaction, so tread lightly with whom you share this video.
