Dustin Johnson + Paulina Gretzky = Popular

Dustin Johnson isn’t playing his best golf right now. He held a share of the lead this past Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open with three holes left, then triple-bogeyed the 17th. He tied for second, his second-best finish of the year after winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in January, but the Canadian trophy was there for the taking.

A week before that at the Open Championship, Johnson opened with a 3-under 68 and followed up with a 1-over 72, and stood just one shot back of the lead going into the weekend. Six bogeys and a double-bogey on Saturday took him right out of contention, and a 6-over 77 on Sunday just sent him tumbling further down the leader board.

But Johnson couldn’t be more popular right now.

Unfortunately — or fortunately — it has everything to do with his girlfriend, the looker that is Wayne Gretzky’s daughter, Paulina. Paulina Gretzky may be Instagram’s most avid user, and because the subject of many of her photos is often herself, she’s one of the most-followed Instagramers (195k and counting).

Dustin makes a few cameos, though. Well, considering the volume at which Gretzky snaps shots, there are quite a few pics including Johnson. So many that the fine folks at Huffington Post Canada pulled 55 from Gretzky’s account and compiled them into a nice little slideshow of their love. Precious.

The couple seems to be happy, as far as we can tell from Instagram and Twitter:

But here’s a warning, Dustin: If you ever go out and win a major or two, then struggle mightily soon thereafter, the legends of golf will come harping on your love life. Just ask Rory McIlory.
