More snow here in the Northeast which means more inside activities for me. Would be a great time to book a trip to, say, sunny Puerto Rico as seen on “Back9 in 90.”
I can live vicariously for now, I suppose. I dream of sun and fruity drinks!
While inside hibernating in the warmth, I came across several articles this week that really got me thinking.
One in particular appeared in Psychology Today regarding missed connections in Wal-Mart, of all places. Missed connections is apparently a section on Craig’s List where people proclaim their unrequited love, hoping to get that second chance to be reunited with a perfect stranger who they locked eyes with but didn’t initially have the balls to do anything about it. Enter Craig’s List where they post when/where they spotted their would be love prospect along with their personal contact information.
Apparently Wal-Mart is by far the most popular place for love at first sight…then lost. I really wonder how many make a re-connection from Craigslist. This whole thing is so baffling to me.
My advice for anyone who encounters love at first sight, where you lock eyes and can’t look away, is to do something about it then and there. Don’t let him or her get away, only to post something later on the Internet in hopes that your possible love interest is on there looking for you as well!
If you are on the market and find yourself in a similar situation, act on your interest (do a quick ring check to make sure he or she is available first). Proceed with a simple hello and go from there. Small talk about the produce etc, do what you gotta do but don’t regret not saying anything. Just go for it! You have nothing to lose and saves you hours of scouring the message boards for missed connections like a chump.
I’d also like to quickly address celeb crushes. Are they OK to have when you are in a relationship? I say absolutely! Please don’t get jealous or insecure over your partner’s highly unattainable fantasy. I think it’s perfectly healthy, natural and acceptable for your partner to find another gal/girl attractive.
I mean, have you seen Danielle Fishel (Topanga of “Boy Meets World” fame) on the cover of Maxim this month? Talk about a girl crush! She looks amazing, and I’m cool with my guy sharing the same sentiment. Gotta give credit where credit is due!
Keep writing me your love & dating questions to @AlyWaite using the hashtag #AskAliB9N. Thanks!
