Alabama Golf Course Vandalized Before Reopening

WBRC FOX6 News - Birmingham, AL

An Alabama golf course was set to reopen for the first time since 2007 on Tuesday, but vandals put an indefinite stop to that when they broke in and trashed the facilities the weekend prior to the course’s reopening.

Victoria and Will Ransom were set to open their doors for the first time in nearly a decade before the vandalism. Lee Peck of WBRC Fox 6 News had the details.

A local golf course is vandalized days before its grand re-opening. The Linksman Golf Club in Mobile was broken into and vandalized overnight Sunday.

“They broke the glass, windows, and just completely destroyed the inside,” said Victoria Ransom.

Victoria and her husband Will have been working for three months to get the grounds and clubhouse ready to reopen the public golf course and driving range. The golf course has been closed since 2007 and was set to reopen this coming Tuesday.

Vandals not only took hammers to the windows, bathroom fixtures and mirrors, but also poured paint on the walls, and spray-painted several satanic and gang-related symbols. Damage from the bathrooms flooded the inside all the way to the back room.

“They spray-painted 666 on top of them and the bar over here had bar stools and paint was dumped into the seats and TVs were ripped off the wall,” said Ransom. “It’s disheartening because we have worked so hard and put a lot of time into this. This is my husband’s dream and to see three months of work destroyed like this is just heartbreaking and sad.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help offset some of the costs caused by the vandals, and family and friends have put together a $1,000 reward for information that may lead to an arrest of those responsible.
