Christmas has come and gone in a flash as it always does. If you were lucky enough to have Santa bring you a new iPhone, there are plenty of great golf apps available to download, most of which are free of charge.
Here are some of our favorites:
Golf GPS & Scorecard – Swing by Swing Golf – Back9Network’s Swing by Swing Golf GPS app is the top free golf GPS apps on the App Store, and it’s easy to see why. It works with every golf course in the world, and it provides you with wind speed, elevation, and club recommendations. It’s essentially a must-have app for any golfer, so go download it and thank me later.
Ubersense Golf – If you’re in the market for an app to improve your game, Ubersense Golf is a great place to start. Record your swing at 120fps and compare it to over 90 PGA Tour players. You can also watch instructional videos from PGA instructors. And the best part? It’s free.
Nike Golf 360° – Similar to Ubersense Golf, Nike Golf 360° is out to be the game-improvement app for you. It allows you to keep score and important stats for four players at over 26,000 courses around the world, such as fairways and greens hit. The real game-improvement aspect comes in the form of watching the swings of top Nike Golf athletes, including Tiger Woods, and comparing them to your own.
Supreme Golf – This app may be relatively unknown, but it’s a diamond in the rough (pun intended). Supreme Golf is a free app that provides users with something that every golfer wants: cheaper tee times. It’s essentially the Kayak.com of golf, allowing golfers to save huge amounts of money on greens fees for just about every course in the area. If you love saving money (who doesn’t?), Supreme Golf is highly recommended.
Golf Match – Every now and then, you get stuck in a situation where your group bails on your Sunday morning tee time, leaving you with very few options. You could cancel your tee time, or you could show up at the course and get paired with a group of random players. Or you can download Golf Match for your phone. This free app pairs you with players of similar skill level to yourself, as well as golfers who share common interests.
The Grint – With The Grint, you’ll never have to worry about being without an official handicap again. It provides you with a free compliant handicap licensed by the USGA, so you can have a number to tell your buddies when they ask how you’re playing. Other features such as a GPS rangefinder and leaderboard are available in the PRO package, but that’ll cost you $19.99 per year.
King of the Course Golf – What would an app list be without a few games? The latest and greatest flick game from Full Fat brings real golfers and courses to your iPhone as you flick your way to high scores and new levels. This is a great game to pick up and play wherever you are. Just resist from playing it while your partner is putting.
Super Stickman Golf 2 – If flicking your iPhone screen repeatedly is too intense, Super Stickman Golf 2 might be for you. The second installment of Stickman’s golf adventure is more ridiculous and fantastic than the original. Avoiding obstacles such as magnets and lava will keep you hooked for hours. If not, I’ll personally refund you the $0.00.
Flappy Golf – For a mixture of the previous two games, Flappy Golf is the one. A spinoff of Super Stickman Golf 2 and the unbelievably addicting Flappy Bird, Flappy Golf changes the way you make your way around the course. Yep, you guessed it … by flapping.
BONUS: Loudmouth Golf Tour – The most stylish way to keep score on the course comes at the hands of none other than Loudmouth Golf. This app lets you track your score and stats, while also competing with your friends on Facebook to win the most awards. It puts a cool spin on the boring task of keeping score.
