If you’re a golfer who struggles with consistent chipping and producing spin on your golf ball, the odds are you’re not hitting the ball on the center of the clubface. Making centered contact is so important for distance control. Because the chip shot is not a full shot, it can sometimes be hard to tell if you’re hitting the center of the wedge or not. In this video, SwingU instructor Josh Kelley provides a cool golf hack to give you that feedback.
Using a dry erase marker, color the entire face of your wedge. Once you’ve done so, hit some chip shots. After each shot look at the clubface to see where the ball is hitting the wedge. The dry erase will rub off when the ball makes contact with the club.
The tendency most golfers have when hitting chip shot is to stand up on it and lose their spine angles. This causes them to hit the ball off the toe of the club. If this applies to you, make sure to stay down on the ball and use your rotation to the shot.
