New material, new technology and the same player-preferred performance.
That’s the Titleist 915 driver in a nutshell. But that’s not all to know about the brand’s most recent update to its line of successful drivers. In fact, there’s a lot to learn about the advanced design of the 915.
“The new 915 drivers are a game-changer for us,” said Dan Stone, Vice President of Research and Development, Titleist Golf Clubs, in a product release. “We’ve increased speed and lowered spin without sacrificing MOI or forgiveness – and we’re the first to get that combination right.”
The biggest change from the Titleist 913 is no doubt what the brand is calling the “Active Recoil Channel.” The proprietary feature is, in essence, a deep channel on the sole of the club that flexes at impact. The result of the flexing is much higher ball speeds and a launch low in spin — which combine for solid distance gains.
“The Active Recoil Channel is a major technical leap in the area of spin reduction,” Stone said. “In player testing, we’ve seen significant distance gains, up to 15 yards for players who need spin control.”
The 915 has another new tech feature in the Radial Speed Face. Working in hand with the Active Recoil Channel, the Radial Speed Face helps to keep the ball speed high even on off-center hits. The face features a forged face insert that’s thinner in the heel and toe. All told, it works to keep your distance up on mis-hits and helps make the 915 among Titleist’s most forgiving drivers to date.
Golfers who have played Titleist drivers in the past will also recognize the same low and deep center of gravity, high MOI and SureFit Tour Hosel in the 915.
The Titleist 915 driver features two models: D2 and D3.
The D2 is geared towards distance and forgiveness and can be played by golfers of varying swing speeds. The D3, which is the smaller of the two, is for the better player and allows for better workability. With lower spin and a lower flight, golfers playing the D3 will be able to manage their trajectory better than in previous models.
Titleist’s 913 was a favorite of tour players and the 915 has already been put into play by some of the game’s best, including Adam Scott.
Along with Titleist’s 915 fairways and hybrids, the 915 driver will be available Nov. 14 and retail for $499.
