Preaching speed, forgiveness and distance, TaylorMade officially launched its 2015 product line Thursday.
With actor John C. McGinley and TaylorMade tour staffer Jason Day in attendance at New York City’s Golf & Body, the brand showcased its new R15 and AeroBurner drivers, fairways and rescues — unveiled this week — and the RSi irons series.
Building further on the technology-driven R line of metalwoods, the R15 offers what TaylorMade CEO Ben Sharpe is considering the brand’s most advanced driver yet.
The R15 continues TaylorMade’s goal of offering golfers a lower and more forward center of gravity and takes the sliding weight feature seen in last year’s SLDR models a step further. The R15 models feature two sliding weights, which are also heavier than the weight in the SLDR.
The addition of the second weight adds more customization options and with the right settings, improves the club’s forgiveness and ensures ball speeds remain consistent no matter where on the face impact arrives.
With additional changes in the design of the weights and the track in which they sit, the R15 works to help golfers improve ball speeds, launch the ball higher and reduce spin — all in the name of distance.
Available in two sizes, the R15 460cc will be available in black and the classic TaylorMade white. The R15 430cc is available in white only.
With the R15, TaylorMade has added a sliding weight to its fairway woods for the first time. R15 fairways have only one tungsten weight, which works to optimize center of gravity and swing bias. The R15 rescues do not include a sliding weight but feature a speed pocket that works to maintain ball speeds even on mishits.
With the AeroBurner line, TaylorMade has added to its highly-successful Burner line and built it for speed. The AeroBurner is lightweight and features the brand’s “Aero Hosel,” and a raised center crown, which both aim to reduce drag during the swing.
In the AeroBurner, TaylorMade has added its SpeedPocket — and made it bigger than we last saw it in last year’s JetSpeed. The new SpeedPocket stretches the length of the club’s sole and — like the R15 and the RSi lines — aims to guard against mishits with improved ball speeds across the face.
The AeroBurner will be available in 460cc ($299) and Tour Preferred ($369) models.
Like the R15, the AeroBurner line also includes fairway woods and rescues with a similar speed pocket.
Completing the 2015 line of products for TaylorMade, of course, are the RSi irons, which feature Face Slot Technology and continue the brand’s trend of making ball speeds consistent across the face, whether the ball was struck well or mishit.
TaylorMade’s R15 and AeroBurner drivers, fairway woods and rescues will be available for pre-order Dec. 12 and in stores Jan. 9. The RSi 1 and RSi 2 irons are available Nov. 14 while the RSi TP irons will be available starting Jan. 15.
