Odyssey Golf has been producing award-winning – and major-winning – flatsticks for decades.
Their new line of putters for 2013 follows in that tradition and hits the mark for players of any skill level. The ProType Black Putter is no exception.
While the company’s most expensive putter option ($270 retail), the ProType Black may also be the highest performer of the lot. This attractive dull-black putter line features all the company’s head styles, ranging from the traditional blade to heavier mallet designs. Each putter head is made of a 1025 carbon steel finish that is both soft to the touch and tarnish-resistant.
The putter’s face features deep milling to create a muted, soft feel at impact. Since I sometimes prefer a “harder” feel on my putts, I found the ProType’s softness a little difficult to get used to right away. However, after a few minutes on the practice green I was able to find my groove quickly and now believe I prefer its feel.
While I rather enjoyed the appearance of the black putter head, some players may be turned off from the unique look. As we all know, comfort plays a huge role in trusting your scoring clubs, so be sure to test the ProType to determine if it is a good fit for your game.
