Gearing Up:~Callaway X-Hot Stand Bag

For players who prefer to walk 18 holes as opposed to riding in a cart, having a comfortable stand bag is a vital piece of equipment. The bag’s straps have to be strong and there should be enough storage compartments to keep your personal items secure.

Callaway Golf’s new X Hot stand bag is both comfortable and useful for those long days walking your favorite course.

Weighing in at only six pounds without clubs, the X Hot bag is one of Callaway’s lightest offerings to date, surpassed only by their Hyper-Lite Series (4.5 pounds).

One of my biggest pet peeves with stand bags is the instability of their base and legs. All too often I struggle standing the bag up on awkward course lies. The X Hot series remedies this issue by featuring a redesigned lightweight molded base that remains in full contact with the ground when the stand is activated.

The double-strap design is very comfortable on the shoulders, even when fully loaded with 14 clubs and a dozen golf balls. The X Hot stays relatively stationary on your back while walking as opposed to a bouncing sensation you might see from other stand bags. A foam hip pad is conveniently located on the side of the X Hot, providing added comfort when carrying the bag with only one strap.

I did find the large number of pockets – 11 in total – to be a bit overwhelming; however, this may just be a personal preference. The insulated water cooler (beer bottle) pocket near the front of the bag could definitely prove useful on hot days.

Currently available in white, the Callaway X Hot stand bag retails for $209.99.
