TaylorMade is having one hell of a 2013 professional golf season. It seems as though almost every PGA Tour event has a handful of TaylorMade staff pros near the top of the leaderboard. The RocketBallz Stage 2 fairway wood series adds to the company’s buzz, which I had the opportunity to try at my home course recently.
First and foremost, this club is flat-out sexy to look at. In fact, the only club that I’ve seen close to the design and look is TaylorMade’s R1 driver. The clubhead features a white, glare-resistant crown and a muted black, yellow and gray detail that screams “trendy.” The low-profile head shape sets up nicely against the golf ball, usually moments before I send that sucker screaming into the forest or nearby lake. Of course, that has everything to do with my swing and nothing to do with this phenomenal club.
Equipped with a low center of gravity directly behind the clubface’s sweet spot, it’s almost impossible to not hit the Stage 2 woods in the air. When compared to other leading fairway woods that I’ve reviewed in 2013, the Stage 2 outperformed nearly all competitors in distance and carry. Finally, the nifty Speed Pocket design acts like a spring that explodes onto your golf ball at impact. Grab this fairway metal and go for the green in two, Sally.
