Halloween might be more than a month away, but we are already seeing ghosts around the office. TaylorMade Ghost putters, that is. (See what I did there?)
The new Ghost Maranello 81 putter is as attractive visually as it is functionally. When addressing your putt while gripping the Maranello, you immediately feel a level of confidence, thanks to a white topline that serves as a great visual aiming aide. The hybrid-style head also features a mirror-black ion-plated sole that further helps to start your putt on the correct line.
The putter’s face features a multi-material 80-20 PureRoll insert (80 percent Surlyn, 20 percent aluminum) that promotes a smooth roll and a soft feel at impact. I found that the club feels like it absorbs the ball when striking a putt, which is sure to please golfers who prefer a softer putter.
The putter’s shaft inserts at the extreme heel of the clubhead, offering a large sweet spot on the face to further increase your confidence en route to making more putts in your next round.
While the putter is a bit light for my preference – the head weight is 350 grams – I had no problem adapting to the feel of the putter during a recent practice session. I was impressed with how well I putted with the Ghost Maranello 81 and will be sure to keep it in my bag this season.
The TaylorMade Ghost Maranello 81 putter retails for $149.99.
