Oakley Golf is poised to enjoy a huge 2013 season, having added defending Masters champion Bubba Watson to their stable earlier in the year. Their new golf shoe line personifies their journey to take over the golf world, starting with the new Cypher 2 and CarbonPRO series.
The Cypher 2 golf shoe raises the bar in style and performance for a company looking to make a name for itself in this area. I was amazed at how lightweight the shoe is for having so much technology thrown into its design. The waterproof outer skin is soft to the touch yet durable, while the Coreflex inner offers maximum flexibility on the course.
I personally enjoyed the unique angle Oakley has gone with the Cypher’s spikeless technology. The NanoSpike cleatless outsole feels akin to touching sandpaper yet delivers amazing traction and control during your swing. When walking on hard surfaces, the shoes produced a crunching sound underfoot, demonstrating the traction the NanoSpikes still offered despite an unusual appearance. I’ve never seen anything like this feature in a golf shoe before and will be talking about it for quite awhile.
Similarly, the new CarbonPRO series offers a more traditional Softspike appearance while offering a ton of goodies under the hood. Oakley’s Red Code Plus technology provides maximum shock absorption when walking the course while the shoe’s PINS Cleat System grips the turf during your swing. The Ortholite insole hugs your foot like a glove and made me feel like I was completely grounded no matter how hard I swung my golf club. I simply cannot see how I will ever slip wearing these shoes.
Both shoes are available in multiple color options and the Cypher 2 retails for $150 while the CarbonPRO goes for $200.
