The great thing about golf majors – the Masters in particular – isn’t just the world’s best players convening in one picturesque location. Or the increased TV time. Or the massive stakes. It’s all of that and the stepped-up game by the apparel companies.

Bigger audiences in person and on TV mean more eyeballs on products, which mean more products off the shelves, which mean more dollar bills in the pockets. We always get a glimpse of what players will wear with the release of scripts, but seeing bold designs and colors on paper is much different than seeing those combinations with green fairways and pink azaleas as the backdrop.
Here’s who wore their Saturday best for the third round of the Masters:
Jonas Blixt, PUMA: The representative for PUMA today has to be Blixt. While staying right in the thick of contention (he’s T-3 and one shot off the lead), he rocked the solid deep lavender polo over some white and black plaid pants.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Ralph Lauren: Few guys sport the popped collar anymore, but Fernandez-Castano is one of those guys. Actually, he may be the only one. Anywho, we liked the look on Saturday, with the coral-striped Ralph Lauren polo.

Ian Poulter, IJP Design: Sooner or later you knew we had to include Poulter in this fashion critique. Today is his day. He’s another Cobra-PUMA guy, but not when it comes to his clothes. That task falls on himself and his IJP Design line. There are a few different colors going on with his shirt, but ultimately it’s mint green on mint green pants. Only Poults.

Joost Luiten, Pin High Golfwear: Apparently this 28-year-old Dutchman designs his own clothes as well. He works with the Pin High Golfwear company, and that scribble-looking logo on the left side of his chest is his initials, indicating that this half-argyle top is “Limited Edition powered by Joost Luiten.”

Adam Scott, Uniqlo: Lastly, we feel the need to credit the simple-but-stylish look. The world No. 2 doesn’t do patterns or stripes or bright colors – unless he’s at the Presidents Cup and has to match his teammates. But usually it’s a solid polo on solid slacks, and it always looks solid. Scott knows how to pull off simple.
