Chances are you’re not going to play Augusta National Golf Club in your lifetime.
The chances, however, are much better that you’ll attend the Masters at least once. And after seeing the immaculate vision of Bobby Jones and Alister Mackenzie, you may have a hankering to tee it up near Augusta, Ga.
Here are some courses near Augusta that could fit the bill:
Champions Retreat Golf Club: There is one course in the world whose design was touched by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. This one. The 27-hole facility has nines constructed by each. The Evans, Ga. club is private but foursomes can be had for $1,300-1,850 during Masters Week.
Gordon Lakes Golf Club: This Robert Trent Jones Jr. design sits on Fort Gordon. The 27-hole facility offers multiple ways to get around the property, playing to a maximum length of 7,131 yards. The best part? The green fee is no more than $27 for civilians.
The River Golf Club: Set along the banks of the Savannah River, The River is set in North Augusta, just over the border in South Carolina. Opened in 1998, the Jim Fazio course plays to a maximum length of 6,847 yards with water in play on over half the course.
The First Tee of Augusta: This nine-hole course is perfect for juniors who are a part of the sport’s initiative to introduce kids to the game, as well as teach them life skills. The course is a par-33 at 2,772 yards.
