A Caribbean Golf Paradise

Spring is here, and many of us are now getting to scratch that golf itch as courses across the country open after the long winter season. But we also know that winter will come once more, and we will be inside with that golfing itching again.

Here at Fairways to Heaven Golf, we feel there is no better place to scratch that itch than the Dominican Republic. Over the past 15 years, the D.R. has evolved into a world-class golf destination with seaside links, sprawling resorts, and a laid-back Caribbean feel.

Casa De Campo

For years, the Casa de Campo resort has headlined the golfing options in the D.R. with the Teeth of the Dog regularly ranked in the top-100 courses in the world outside the U.S., and easily as one of the very best in the Caribbean. For many years, it was close to a two-hour ride from the airport along some small, windy road to get there, but over recent years due to infrastructure improvements, the ride has been reduced to 45 minutes.

The resort itself boasts 36 holes of championship golf, extensive resort accommodations ranging up to eight-bedroom homes, a marina, and a slew of restaurants and bars to choose from. Additional activities include equestrian riding, shooting, tennis, sport fishing and night golf.

The resort boasts private beaches to soak up the sun and endless water sports to relax after a hard day on the links.

Punta Cana Resort

As the island has evolved, the Punta Cana area now boasts some of the best island golf you will find anywhere in the world as well as an endless string of beachfront resorts on one of the most stunning beaches anywhere. There really is an option for everyone here as the resorts range from the economical to the 5-star luxury properties.

Punta Cana Resort is one of the 5-star properties that we regularly use for our guests from Fairways to Heaven. Literally next door to the Punta Cana Airport, it is just a 10-minute drive and you are in your island paradise.

There is a range of accommodation choices while there. Tortuga Bay is their signature option delivering large beachfront villas with a white glove service for the guests, fine dining options and water sports all included.

The Westin property offers something for those not looking for the luxury experience but still wanting all the resort has to offer. Additionally, the Resort offers villa rentals that range up to nine bedrooms and come with a maid, butler and chef all at your disposal!

Punta Espada

The golf here is the true gem. Forty-five holes of golf await guests headlined by the Corales Course, which now hosts an annual PGA Tour event each March. This seaside course delivers a stiff challenge, immaculate conditions and some of the most stunning ocean views anywhere. A Tom Fazio design, the course opened in 2010 to rave reviews and is a must-play when visiting the Dominican Republic.

Additionally, the 27-hole La Cana Course designed by P.B. Dye is an excellent addition to a golfing lineup while there. It offers the golfer a bit of a break from the challenge of the Corales Course, which adds to an excellent resort golf experience.

In this golfer’s opinion, just 15 minutes down the road is not only the best golf course in the Dominican Republic but in the world. Currently ranked No. 63 in the world by Golf Digest, Punta Espada is a Jack Nicklaus design that the Golden Bear can truly take a bow for.

Located within the Cap Cana development, the course has been laid out along the natural contours of the Caribbean Sea and resulted in something truly unforgettable. A recent client of Fairways to Heaven Golf who has been on the PGA Tour for many years played the course and placed it No. 2 on his list, only behind Pebble Beach,  and tied with Cypress Point — not bad company!

The course is staffed with excellent caddies and superb facilities to support what is the best golf experience in the Dominican Republic.
